Peru's copper production rose 1.3% year-on-year in April and 3% in January-April this year, over the same period in 2018, Energy and Mines Ministry (MEM) reported Friday.
According to MEM's Statistical Mining Bulletin, copper production was reported at 775,154 fine metric tons (FMT) in April of this year, in contrast to 752,629 FMT produced in the same period a year before.
Such increase was underpinned by the completion of the
Toquepala expansion project and higher production at Antapaccay mining company.
Peru's leading copper producers were
Cerro Verde, which accounted for 20.8% of total production, followed by
Antamina (18.6%) and
Las Bambas (15.8%).
At the regional level, Arequipa led the country's copper production, making up 21% (162,501 FMT) of the total, followed by Ancash (19% or 147,080 FMT) and Apurimac (15% or 122,138 FMT).
Lead
On the other hand, lead production grew 20.4% year-on-year in April and 9.6% from March, thus generating an accumulated growth of 7.5% in January-April 2019 compared to the same period a year earlier.
Tin
On the other hand, national tin production witnessed an 18.8% rise to 6,652 FMT in the first four-month period of the current year.
